Origin and history

The castle of Monchoix was built in 1759 in the commune of Pluduno, in the Côtes-d This three-storey rectangular castle embodies the classical rural architecture of the time, with facades marked by two monumental chimneys. Chateaubriand, then a teenager, described him as "a true paradise," demonstrating his attachment to this family place.

Inside, the original distribution was partially altered by subsequent partitions in the 19th century, but the writer's room was preserved. This monument, emblematic of local heritage, reflects the way of life of the Breton aristocracy in the Enlightenment century. Its historical and literary importance led to its inscription in historical monuments by order of 22 July 2004.

Today, the castle of Monchoix remains an architectural and memorial testimony, associated with both regional history and the major figure of Chateaubriand. Its structure, though transformed, retains original elements that make it a place full of history, between family heritage and heritage recognition.
