Although its GPS location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), it remains a central memory site for the inhabitants. No information is available about its architect or the specific circumstances of its creation, but its status as a Historic Monument underscores its heritage importance.
The Grand-Couronne region of Normandy was marked by the consequences of the Great War, as were many French communes. The monuments to the dead, erected in the interwar period, symbolized collective pain and the duty of memory. That of Grand-Couronne, by its recent inscription, bears witness to the contemporary desire to preserve these historical traces.
