Origin and history
Ernest Ferroul's memorial, located in Narbonne, was built in tribute to the events of 1907, which marked the region deeply. Funded by a national subscription, it embodies a pivotal period in the social and political history of Languedoc-Roussillon (now Occitanie). Its sculptural style reflects the artistic tendencies of the interwar period, mixing solemnity and symbolism.
The original composition of the monument underwent a slight change when it was moved in 1997, without altering its memory essence. It consists of a base, an obelisk, a statue and two basins engraved with the names Mas Cabardès and Argeliers, elements protected by ministerial decree in 2007. These details underline its territorial anchor and its role in preserving collective memory.
The monument, the work of sculptor Firmin Michelet, is now owned by the commune of Narbonne. Its current location on Frédéric-Mistral Boulevard makes it a historical and artistic landmark in the city. The accuracy of its location, assessed as satisfactory a priori, allows visitors to easily locate it in urban space.
