Wall vestiges (Box B 862): classification by decree of 16 August 1973
Origin and history
The ancient monument of Vievy-le-Rayé, located in the town of Vievy-le-Rayé (Loir-et-Cher), is an architectural vestige classified as a Historical Monument. Its remains of walls, identified under cadastral reference B 862, were protected by a classification order on 16 August 1973. This site now belongs to the commune and bears witness to the ancient occupation in this rural region of the Loire Valley.
The location of the monument, although documented (1 Rue du Parlement, 41290 Vievy-le-Rayé), remains approximate according to available sources, with a cartographic accuracy considered "passable" (note 5/10). No additional information is provided on its original use or specific archaeological context. The data come mainly from the Merimée database and Monumentum, without details of any recent excavations or studies.
During antiquity, the territory corresponding to the present region Centre-Val de Loire was crossed by Roman routes and marked by Gallo-Roman occupation. Remnants such as those of Vievy-le-Rayé could belong to villaes (agricultural estates), sanctuaries, or local infrastructure. Their partial preservation often reflects their reuse or progressive abandonment after the fall of the Roman Empire.
