Origin and history

The Darney Calvary Monument, located in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region, dates from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. This site, classified as Historic Monument by order of 20 June 1963, includes not only the calvary itself but also adjacent parcels of land (cadastre B 254 to 256, 275, 276). Its location, close to Rue de la Gare, reflects a central location in the commune, although the current cartographic accuracy is considered poor (level 5/10).

At that time, Calvary played an important role in the religious and social life of the rural communities of Lorraine. They served as places of devotion, gathering for processions, and often marked strategic or symbolic points in the landscape. The project manager identified for this monument is Gerdolle, although the details of his intervention remain limited to the archives available.

The protection of the site in 1963 underlines its heritage importance, thus preserving a material testimony of piety and local handicrafts of the eighteenth century.
