Origin and history
The castrale d'Ors is a historic monument located in the commune of Ors, in the department of the North (59), in the Hauts-de-France region. This medieval site, whose location is estimated to be "a priori satisfactory" (level 6 of 10), is characteristic of the defensive structures of the period. It has been listed in the Historical Monuments since 1993, protecting the entire motte and its defensive system, identified under cadastral plots C 156 to 165.
In the Middle Ages, the castral mots played a central role in the territorial and military organization of the local lords. These fortifications, often surrounded by ditches and surmounted by a wooden or stone tower, were used to control the surrounding lands and ensure the protection of the people. In the Hauts-de-France, a region marked by intense conflict and trade, these structures were strategic for feudal powers.
Although the specific details of the occupants or events related to this motte are not mentioned in the available sources, its inscription demonstrates its heritage importance.
