Castral motte, as well as the land (soil and basement) on which it is established, namely the whole of Parcel YE 96: inscription by order of 28 November 1995
Origin and history
La motte du moulin de Pommerit is a medieval fortification located in the commune of Pommerit-le-Vicomte, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, in Brittany. This site, dating from the middle of the Middle Ages, is distinguished by its 55-metre-long, 35-metre-wide, and 10-metre-high oval terrace, positioned at the western end of the site. The base of the terter is reinforced on the east side by an apparatus of large blocks of stones, while its sommital platform remained intact. Although no ditches are visible today, it may have been filled over time. The motte dominates the Trieux valley, offering a strategic position.
The motte of the Pommerit mill was listed as historical monuments by an order of 28 November 1995. This protection covers not only the castral mound itself, but also the entire terrain (soil and basement) of the YE 96 plot on which it is established. This classification reflects the heritage importance of the site, which is a characteristic example of the medieval fortifications of the region.
The site is located at approximately 1 Traou An Dour in the municipality of Pommerit-le-Vicomte. Although the practical information about his visit or access is not detailed in the available sources, his inscription as a historical monument makes him a place of interest in the study of medieval military architecture in Brittany. The accuracy of its location is estimated to be fair, which may indicate difficulties for accurate field identification without any additional tools.
