Windmill of Lignerolles (Box C 168): by order of 2 April 1942
Origin and history
The windmill of Lignerolles is a historical monument located in the commune of Coinces, in the Loiret department (45), in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Ranked by ministerial decree on April 2, 1942, it is a typical example of the windmills that marked the French rural landscape. Its exact location, although documented in the Merimée base, remains approximate according to the GPS coordinates available, with a location indicated near the Route d'Orléans.
Windmills, like Lignerolles, played a central role in the agricultural economy of the grain regions. They allowed the milling of grain to produce flour, an essential activity for local communities. In the Loiret, as in other departments of the Centre-Val de Loire region, these buildings were often gathering points and symbols of prosperity.
Their architecture, adapted to weather conditions and technical needs, reflects the ingenuity of the artisans and peasants of the time.
