Origin and history
The Larroque mill, located in Couze-et-Saint-Front, is an architectural testimony of local milling activities. Its existence has been attested since the Middle Ages, when water mills played a central role in the rural economy and the processing of cereals. These infrastructures, often linked to seigneuries or religious communities, structured daily life by providing flour and hydraulic energy.
In the 18th century, the Larroque mill underwent significant changes, reflecting the technical changes and the growing needs of the population. This period often marks a rationalization of facilities, with improvements to improve yield or adapt to new agricultural uses. The mills, like Larroque, then became strategic places, both technical and social, at the heart of local economic dynamics.
