Origin and history

Le Moulin de Venet is a monument located in the commune of Bagneux, in the department of Indre, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This mill, whose location is estimated as fair, is characterized by its architecture including a main building, a blade wheel, a belfry and a complex hydraulic mechanism. These elements, as well as the associated canals and valves, were officially protected by an inscription under the Historic Monuments in 2023.

Mills played a central role in the economic and social life of French rural areas. In Centre-Val de Loire, as elsewhere, they were mainly used for the milling of cereals, an activity essential for local communities. Their presence often reflected a collective organization around water resources, while at the same time constituting points of encounter and exchange.

The Moulin de Venet is part of this tradition, although the specific details of its historical exploitation are not specified in the available sources.
