Origin and history

The Moulin du Barrage, located in Porchères en Gironde, is an industrial building erected in 1850, during the mid-19th century. This mill is distinguished by its elongated rectangular structure, divided into five spans and composed of three main levels, to which is added a top built in 1937. The ensemble retained all of its machinery, the oldest of which dates back to 1903, offering a rare testimony of milling techniques of the time.

Ranked a Historic Monument, the Mill of the Dam includes not only the main building, but also an adjacent warehouse, store and bridge connecting it to the adjacent dam. These elements, as well as the dam itself, were protected by a registration order dated 25 April 2007. The site, now owned by a private company, illustrates the importance of mills in the rural and industrial economy of the Gironde in the 19th century.

The location of the mill, specified by GPS coordinates and address 171 A Le Barrage, is considered satisfactory (level 7 of 10). Although its access to the public is not explicitly mentioned, its exceptional conservation and designation as Historic Monuments make it a major technical and architectural heritage of New Aquitaine.
