Origin and history

In 2013, after the closure of the Val-d'Oise Museum of Education in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, the city of Gonesse wished to preserve these collections in Île-de-France. This project led to the creation of a museum of history and society in the former hospital-hospice of 1841, a building classified as a heritage of regional interest in 2020. The museum combines the Franciscan educational collections, accumulated for 40 years, with the local hospital heritage to address the history of education in terms of health and student care.

The museum obtained the label Musée de France in 2023, consolidating its heritage vocation. Located in a historic building — Gonesse Hospital Hospital, founded in the 19th century — it illustrates the link between education, public health and local memory. The city valued this site by integrating regional collections, while highlighting its architecture, recognized for its historical interest by the Île-de-France Region.

The museum's official coordinates, according to the Museofile base, are located at Gonesse City Hall (73bis Rue de Paris), although its GPS location is considered poor (note 5/10). This project is part of an approach to preserving the educational and hospital heritage of France, while offering a space dedicated to the transmission of this knowledge.
