Origin and history
The Museum of Feurs was established in 1930 on the initiative of the municipality. It houses rich archaeological furniture acquired by donations or devolution, reflecting the history of Feurs and its territory, from prehistoric times to contemporary times. The city of Feurs, formerly known as Forum Segusiavorum, was an important Gallo-Roman center of the first century, the capital of the city of Ségusiaves. This ancient past has long marked the local identity, giving its name to the Forez and the city itself.
The museum devotes a permanent exhibition to landscape painter Charles Beauverie (1839-1923), originally from Lyon but having lived long in the Forez. His works (oils, watercolours, strong waters) are presented alongside biographical elements, highlighting his links with archaeology and regional history. The ground floor also houses various temporary exhibitions, while the building, an 18th-century bourgeois house, became communal property in 1975.
Labeled Museum of France, the institution plays a key role in valuing local heritage, combining archaeological collections, pictorial art and social history. Its official address, 3 rue Victor de Laprade in Feurs (Loire), makes it a central place for discovering the cultural heritage of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered fair (note 5/10), according to available data.
