Origin and history
The Boxe Museum was a unique ethnographic museum in France, entirely dedicated to the history and culture of boxing. Inaugurated on 20 May 2005 in the Palais des Sports Jean-Claude Bouttier in Sannois (Val-d'Oise), he proposed an immersion in the world of this sport, from antiquity to contemporary times. Its collection, rich in more than 8,000 objects, included trophies, historical documents, works of art dating from 1800 to the present day, as well as a reconstituted ring and training room for an immersive experience.
Despite its pioneering character, the museum closed in 2018 due to insufficient attendance. During his years of activity, he offered a complete panorama of boxing, combining sports, cultural and artistic dimensions. The venue was managed in the Sannois Sports Palace, a municipal equipment dedicated to physical activities, highlighting the link between sports heritage and local territory.
Today, although the museum no longer exists physically, its legacy continues through archives and traces left in collective memory. The Palace of Sports Jean-Claude Bouttier, which housed it, remains a symbol of the sport and cultural life of Sannois, in a region, the Île-de-France, where industrial and sporting heritage coexisted with more traditional historic sites.
