Origin and history
The Musée départemental du Textile de Labastide-Rouairoux was created in 1983 to preserve and enhance the textile industrial heritage of Tarn. It settles in an old factory of the 19th century, symbol of the economic activity that marked the valley of the Thoré. The museum is attached to the General Council of Tarn in 2000, thus consolidating its territorial and institutional anchor.
In 2008, after a complete renovation, the museum inaugurated a new museum tour on July 11. This renewal makes it possible to highlight various collections: textiles, business archives, tools and machines related to local industry. These elements illustrate the technical know-how and social history of the region, while enrolling in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park.
The museum covers multidisciplinary themes ranging from decorative arts (textiles) to ethnology (trades and tools), local history and industrial sciences. It benefits from the label Musée de France, guaranteeing the quality of its collections and its mediation. Its official address, Rue de la Rive, and its website offer visitors convenient access to this industrial memory site.
