Origin and history

The Musée des sapeurs-fireurs de France à Montville, located in Anceaumeville, Normandy, gathers a unique collection dedicated to the history of firefighters since the 18th century. The objects exposed come mainly from the communes and fire brigades, who have given up their equipment after reforms. Some of the pieces were also donated by private collectors, enriching the fonds with uniforms, tools, and archival documents.

The museum is distinguished by rare pieces, such as the 4-wheeled hand pump known as "des Échevins", dating from 1721 and originally from Rouen, considered the oldest still preserved in France. The topics covered cover uniforms, tools (scales, motor pumps), as well as paper archives, photographs, and objects related to numismatics or philately. This place is one of the only three in France to present such a heritage dedicated to the fire.

Labelled Museum of France, the establishment is located on Baron Bigot Street in Montville (Seine-Maritime). Its approximate GPS address is located on Rue Louis-Guittet. Although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), the museum remains a reference to understand the evolution of techniques and the occupation of firefighter over three centuries. Its website (montville.fr) offers additional information for visitors.
