Origin and history

The Costume Museum was inaugurated in 1988 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, in the Savoie department. Its initial objective was to highlight the diversity of costumes worn at the end of the 19th century in the villages of Savoie, with particular emphasis on those of Bourg-Saint-Maurice. The purpose of the project was to preserve and transmit a local dress heritage, a witness to the traditions and daily life of the time.

Located in the former presbytery of the commune, the museum enjoys a historical setting adapted to its ethnological vocation. It is labeled "Musée de France", which underlines its cultural and heritage importance. The collections focus on ethnology and provide an overview of the region's clothing practices and craftsmanship.

The location of the museum, at 795 Route de la Trinité, is indicated as approximate, with an accuracy considered fair. This site, though modest in size, plays a key role in valuing Savoyard intangible heritage, in addition to other regional museums dedicated to local history and popular traditions.
