Origin and history
The Musée du Guesclin is a space dedicated to Bertrand du Guesclin, a great connétable of France who died at Châteauneuf-de-Randon in July 1380. Located in the town hall of the commune, it offers an exhibition depicting its life and historical role. A statue in his honour sits on the main square, highlighting its local importance.
The museum also showcases the castle of Châteauneuf-Randon, which is now gone, through a model reconstructing its past appearance. Open only in July and August, it is part of the medieval heritage of Gevaudan and Lozère, an area marked by military and feudal history.
The initiative is based on local sources and references to the Late Middle Ages, during which time Bertrand du Guesclin played a key role in the conflicts of the Hundred Years War. The museum is intended for history enthusiasts and visitors wishing to discover this part of the Occitan heritage.
