Origin and history

The Robert Dubois-Corneau Municipal Museum was founded in 1951 thanks to the legacy of Robert Dubois-Corneau, a local historian and collector passionate about the 18th century. He offered his collections to Brunoy to create a museum dedicated to history and fine arts. This initial legacy was enriched by works by local artists, including painter Maurice Eliot (1862-1945), sculptor Maurice Prost (1894-1967), and photographer Lucien Caussat (1898-1998), thus reflecting the cultural life of the Yerres Valley.

The museum is distinguished by its various collections, including ceramics, prints, sculptures, paintings, photographs, and books of bibliophilia. It highlights pieces related to Brunoy's castle, Brunoy's Waters, and historical figures such as Jean Pâris de Monmartel and the Count of Provence. Part of the collections is also dedicated to François-Joseph Talma, Napoleon I's favourite actor, as well as 19th-century works and 20th-century animal sculptures.

The building itself, a 19th-century resort villa, features eclectic architecture with facades adorned with mosaics and neo-Moorish arches. Inside, visitors can admire woodwork, stucco and pavement mosaics, which are evidence of the refinement of the era. This decor, combined with collections, makes it an emblematic place of local and regional history.
