Origin and history
The Musée du Gâtinais, located in Montargis (Loiret), draws its collections from archaeological excavations carried out in the region. The inventory originally originated from the Girodet Museum, on which it depends for its management and archives. Among the notable pieces are a votive marble dedication dedicated to the goddess Segetae (I century BC), as well as Egyptian sarcophagi of the 21st dynasty, illustrating the diversity of acquisitions.
The museum also houses Merovingian funerary furniture, goldwork and a 500-piece monetary treasure dating from the third century. These collections cover a variety of fields, from archaeology to natural sciences, reflecting local history and distant cultural exchanges. The official address, 7 rue du Château, corresponds to the one referenced in the Museofile base, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10).
The establishment is labeled Musée de France and enjoys institutional recognition, while remaining anchored in its territory, as evidenced by regional deposits. The available sources (Monumentum, internal data) underline its role in preserving the heritage of Gâtinais, without further specifying its administrative history or architectural developments.
