Origin and history

The Cécile Sabourdy Museum & Gardens is a Public Institution for Cultural Cooperation (EPCC) located in Vicq-sur-Breuilh, Haute-Vienne. Since 2014, he has been offering exhibitions dedicated to unclassifiable artistic practices, highlighting Naïve, Brut and Singulier artists, mainly from the Limousin region. The museum houses a permanent collection accessible year round, as well as temporary exhibitions that confront works by self-taught and professional artists, from various geographical and temporal backgrounds. The space also includes a media library, relay point of Father Castor's Media Library.

Set up in an ancient 17th-century presbytery, the museum was named Museum of France in 2022. This label recognizes its role in valuing a marginal but rich artistic heritage, through paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings and tapestries. The exhibitions, organized by rotation, explore various themes and offer a cross-cutting approach to the so-called non-standard arts.

The building itself, as a former presbytery, bears witness to local history and the evolution of cultural usage in the region. The museum is positioned as a meeting place between often unknown art forms and a diverse audience, while being part of a wider cultural network, thanks in particular to its affiliation with Father Castor's Media Library. Its official address, 2 rue du musée Cécile Sabourdy, confirms its territorial anchoring in the municipality of Vicq-sur-Breuilh, in New Aquitaine.
