Origin and history
The Post Museum of Amboise was created at the Joyeuse Hotel thanks to the gift of a travel enthusiast and postal system in the 1970s. This place, dedicated to postal history, has benefited from a variety of collections, from purchases, depots of other museums and important gifts, such as those of Claude Rey in 1976 and Roger Gody in 1988. Despite its closure in 2000, the collections continued to enrich, reflecting a preserved postal heritage.
Some of the objects are now preserved at the Paris Post Museum, while the other one is displayed at the Morin Museum-Hotel or stored in the reserves of the city of Amboise. This sharing illustrates the desire to preserve and enhance a technical and ethnological heritage linked to communication and transport, rooted in local and national history.
The Joyeuse Hotel, which initially housed the museum, and the Morin Museum-Hotel, which is now a partial exhibition venue, underline the importance of Amboise in the conservation of this heritage. Geographical accuracy, although poor (note of 5/10), allows to situate these collections in a wider historical and tourist setting, labeled Musée de France and linked to the theme of techniques and industries.
