Origin and history

The virtual museum Angelo Di Marco de Troyes is dedicated to the work of Angelo Di Marco (1927–2016), a cartoonist and cartoonist, known for his hyperrealistic style. Born in Paris and active mainly between the 1950s and 1990, he was illustrated by collaborations with major newspapers such as France-Soir, Détective or Radar, where his illustrations of various facts, often used as posters in kiosks, marked the collective imagination. His unique approach, stopping the criminal act in extremis, earned him a reputation for quasi-judicial precision, as in 1959, where one of his drawings helped identify a murderer through a meticulous sketch-robot.

Di Marco began in the 1950s with illustrations of various facts, before diversifying into comics. Among his best known creations are Captain Ardent (1950s), Ivanhoe (1960s), and Nasdine Hodja (resumed 1969 in Pif Gadget), a picaresque character inspired by Robin Hood. He collaborated with writers like Roger Lécureux and published under the pseudonym Arcor erotic works (Doctor Sex) or adaptations of television series (K 2000). His work, both technical and narrative, reflects the evolution of the French illustrated press, between documentary realism and popular fiction.

The virtual museum, located in Troyes (Great East), highlights this prolific career through digital archives. Although the exact period of creation of the museum is not specified, its existence is part of a desire to preserve the memory of an artist whose influence extends from popular press to comics, and from occasional contributions to criminal investigations. His works, now studied for their style and cultural impact, continue to interest art historians and fans of various graphic facts.

Among the highlights of his bibliography are collaborations with publishers such as Dargaud (K 2000), Lefrancq (Le Yankee), or CAP (Doctor Sex). Books like Di Marco: 20 years of various facts (1989) or Angelo di Marco: the art of crime (2015) bear witness to the seed of his work. The virtual museum thus allows us to explore this varied production, from the shock of Detective to the adventurous stories of Nasdine Hodja, to more confidential projects such as her erotic comics.
