Origin and history

The Art and Archaeology Museum of Adon has its origin in the conservation of archaeological excavations in the canton of Châtillon-Coligny. These discoveries, including Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiques, as well as prehistoric, protohistoric and Gallo-Roman remains, were deposited to form the core of the collections. The museum is also enriched with the furniture and paintings of the Montmorency-Luxembourg, a noble family that occupied the Château de Châtillon-Luxembourg for nearly three centuries, including emblematic pieces such as the Table des Connétables de Montmorency.

The collections cover various fields, ranging from national archaeology (principal tombs of the fifth century BC, Celtic and barbaric cemeteries) to fine arts (paintings, religious statues of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries). The museum also preserves archives, numismatic pieces, and objects related to local history, including French Protestantism and scientific elements such as minerals or documents on Becquerel and radioactivity. These sets reflect both regional history and major scientific advances.

Associated with the Châtillon-Coligny Hospice, the museum benefits from the label Musée de France and is located in the 2 suburbs of Puyrault. His interest also lies in his ancient porch and his location in a place marked by major archaeological discoveries, such as sanctuaries of sources or Gallo-Roman monetary treasures. However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor (note 5/10), according to available data.
