Origin and history

The Museum of Outdoor Sculpture is an outdoor exhibition space, located in the Tino-Rossi Garden, along the Seine, in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. Created in the late 1970s, it occupies a land of two hectares, formerly intended for an abandoned fast track. This place, designed by architect Daniel Badani, was inaugurated in 1980 on the initiative of the City of Paris. It presents about thirty contemporary sculptures accessible free of charge, day and night, without fence or access restrictions.

The garden extends 767 metres between the bridge of Austerlitz and the Sully Bridge, near the Jardin des Plantes. It houses works by renowned artists such as César Baldaccini, Constantin Brancusi, Alexander Archipenko, Ossip Zadkine, Émile Gilioli and Jean Arp, as well as works by lesser-known artists. In addition to its cultural role, the square hosts musical and cultural meetings, and includes a Batobus station.

This museum is part of the museums of the city of Paris and is distinguished by its permanent access and its wooded and flowery setting. It illustrates the desire to democratize contemporary art by integrating it into a public space open to all, in the heart of the capital.
