Origin and history

The Museum of Architectural and Industrial Ceramics of Auneuil originated from Mr. Boulenger's legacy when he died in 1900. The latter offered the commune a house, works, collection pieces and a sum of money for social works. These resources served as the basis for the creation of the museum, which was located in the former railway station district. The establishment showcases ceramic elements produced by the Boulenger manufacture, specialized in polychrome stoneware tiles for construction and decoration.

The museum is distinguished by its unique collection in France, covering the period 1880-1930. The exhibits illustrate the use of ceramics in architecture, both indoor and outdoor, as well as in the decorative arts. The building itself, decorated with tiles from the factory, bears witness to this industrial know-how. Labelled Museum of France, it also preserves archives, mouldings and tools related to the ceramic trades.

Associated with the former Boulenger tile factory, the museum is part of a local industrial and artisanal heritage. His address, 432 avenue du Maréchal Foch, and his code INSEE (60029) place him in the department of l'Oise, in the Hauts-de-France region. The accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (note 5/10), but its heritage interest remains major for the history of techniques and decorative arts.
