Origin and history

The Neolithic site of Pont-Sainte-Maxence is an archaeological vestige located in the municipality of the same name, in the Hauts-de-France. Although its exact period is not specified, its membership in the Neolithic suggests a human occupation dating from 6000 to 2000 B.C., a period marked by the emergence of agriculture and sedentarization.

Neolithic sites such as Pont-Sainte-Maxence were often places of life, commerce or rituals for prehistoric communities. In this region, people exploited local natural resources, such as fertile soils in river valleys, and developed polished stone tools, characteristic of that time.
