Origin and history
The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, located in Fleury-en-Bière in Seine-et-Marne, is a Catholic religious building dating from the Middle Ages. It has been a historical monument since 1926 and is distinguished by its medieval architecture and its central role in local life. The Church Street, where it is located, marks the historic heart of the village.
In 2005, renovations revealed murals in the southern chapel, attributed to the Primatice, a major Renaissance artist. These discoveries highlighted the heritage importance of the site. A second restoration campaign, launched in the years 2020, aims to renovate the roof, chapel and sacristy, with an estimated budget of €3 million.
Originally registered in 1926, the church obtained a final ranking in 2025 after steps taken by Mayor Alain Richard with the DRAC. This ranking reinforces its protection and highlights its artistic heritage, including the frescoes of the Primatic, and its role in local history.
The monument is owned by the commune of Fleury-en-Bière, which manages and preserves it. Its legal status evolves with its ranking, guaranteeing increased conservation. The projects under way, such as the installation of drains for the evacuation of the water, aim to perpetuate this emblematic building of the Île-de-France.
