Origin and history

The Church of Notre-Dame de Châtillon-sur-Broué is a religious building located in the commune of the same name, in the department of Marne, in the Grand Est region. Built mainly during the 16th and 17th centuries, it has a remarkable architecture with a wooden body dating back to the first decades of the 16th century. This type of construction, typical of some French regions, reflects the craft techniques of the time and the use of local resources such as wood.

The church bell tower was rebuilt in 1822, marking a major architectural intervention in the 19th century. This change reflects the need for restoration or adaptation of the building to the standards or uses of the time. The building was fully listed as historic monuments on September 7, 1977, recognizing its heritage value and importance to local and national heritage. This protection preserves the historical and architectural characteristics of the church for future generations.
