Origin and history

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assumption du Seure is a religious building emblematic of Saintonge Romanesque architecture. Built in the 12th century, it embodies the medieval heritage of the region, with stylistic features unique to the Saintonge, such as sober patterns and arches in the middle of the hang. Its classification as a historic monument in 1910 underscores its heritage and architectural value, as well as its role in local history.

The location of the church in the village of Seure in Charente-Maritime reflects the importance of places of worship in the organization of rural communities in the Middle Ages.
