Origin and history
The church Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes de Vannes is a Catholic religious building located in the Morbihan department in Brittany. Built between 1960 and 1962, it is part of the modern post-war architectural movement, marked by active reconstruction and stylistic innovations in places of worship. It is distinguished by its location in the Trussac district at 52 rue de la Brise, a developing sector at that time.
The construction of this church is carried by the priest Albert Nicolas, a local figure whose initiative allowed its construction in just two years. Consecrated on Palm Day in 1962, it was then entrusted to the community of Emmanuel, a Catholic congregation. Its history reflects the religious and urban dynamics of Vannes in the 20th century, where the new parishes respond to demographic expansion and the evolution of cultural practices.
Today, the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes integrates into the religious landscape of the city, alongside other historical or contemporary buildings. It is included in departmental inventories, such as the Morbihan List of Churches and the Vannes List of Religious Buildings, highlighting its local anchoring. Its architecture and history make it a witness to the social and spiritual transformations of modern Brittany.
