Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame de Ressons-l'Abbaye was founded in the pre-demonstrated abbey founded in the 12th century, initially a priory erected as an abbey in 1125 by the lords of Aumont, who held a right of burial there. This religious site, located in the French Vexin under the archdiocese of Rouen, marked the region for a long time by its spiritual and seigneurial influence.

The present building was rebuilt between 1705 and 1715 in a classical style, replacing a 13th century church. She became an abbey church in 1704 and suffered major damage during a hurricane in 1730, and then lost her choir in the early 19th century. After the Revolution, it was converted into a parish church, now part of the parish of Saint-Yves-d-Auteuil.

Classified as a historical monument in 1994, the church retains protected elements such as its nave and bell tower. A communal property, it bears witness to the architectural heritage of the Premonstrates and to the transformations linked to political and natural upheavals. Its heritage inscription underscores its role in the religious and local history of Hauts-de-France.
