Origin and history
The Church of Notre-Dame-des-Saints-Anges is a Catholic religious building in the municipality of Mitry-Mory, Seine-et-Marne. Its construction, begun in March 1932, is part of a period of urban expansion and development of peripheral neighbourhoods, such as Mitry-le-Neuf. The building was blessed in May 1933 by Bishop Frédéric Lamy, marking his rapid anchoring in local life.
The official foundation of the parish, in July 1935, consecrated the central role of this church in the Catholic community of Mitry-Mory. Located at 10 Buffon Avenue, it becomes a gathering place for the faithful of the Mitry-le-Neuf district. Its architecture and history reflect the social and religious dynamics of the inter-war period in Île-de-France.
The monument is integrated into a changing urban landscape, where religious buildings play both a spiritual and a social role. At that time, new churches such as Notre-Dame-des-Saints-Anges respond to the needs of a growing population, often resulting from rural exoduses or emerging industrialisation. Their construction also symbolizes the vitality of Catholicism in the growing suburbs of Paris.
