Notre-Dame-la-Blanche Chapel: by order of 18 October 1910

Origin and history

The Notre-Dame-la-Blanche chapel is a religious building located in the commune of Guérande, in the Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire region. Built in the 14th century, it represents an important architectural and spiritual heritage for the city. Its designation as historic monuments in 1910 reflects its heritage value recognized by the French State.

The chapel is located precisely at 1 Rue de Bizienne, in the centre of Guérande. It belongs to the commune and is part of the protected monuments of the department. Its official classification, dated October 18, 1910, covers the entire building, thus guaranteeing its preservation for future generations.

In the 14th century, when the chapel was built, Guérande was a prosperous city, marked by its role in the salt trade and its medieval urban organization. Religious buildings like Notre-Dame-la-Blanche then played a central role in community life, serving as both a place of worship, a gathering and a symbol of the Christian faith in the region. These chapels were often built through local donations or initiatives, reflecting the importance of religion in the society of the time.
