Origin and history
The nymphae of Scey Park is a historic monument located in Dole, in the Jura department (39), in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Built during the second half of the 18th century, it is part of the architectural style of the decorative buildings linked to the gardens and parks of that time. Its location, on the haulage path of the Rhône-Rhin Canal, highlights its integration into an landscape, probably linked to an aristocratic or bourgeois property.
The nymph was partially protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments on December 21, 1984, specifically covering the ancient low parts of the monument. Today, it belongs to the municipality of Dole and is located at a specific address: 38 Chemin du Canal du Rhône au Rhin. Although the information on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.) is not detailed, its location and conservation status is considered satisfactory, with geographical accuracy noted 8/10.
This type of monument, typical of the 18th century, reflects the importance attached to the embellishment of natural spaces and the creation of places for walks or contemplation. The nymphs, often associated with water sources or dots, served as both aesthetic decorations and symbols of cultural refinement. Their presence in public or private parks reflects the social practices and artistic tastes of the elite of the time.
