Origin and history

The property called the Terrace, located in Crécy-Couvé en Eure-et-Loir, dates from the second half of the 18th century. It is distinguished by its gate and wrought iron grid, elements protected by a registration order under the Historical Monuments in 1992. These works were originally from the Château de Bailleul (in the Eure), reflecting a notable architectural re-use in the region.

The reorganization of the village of Crécy-Couvé between 1750 and 1754 was attributed to the intervention of the Marquise de Pompadour, an influential figure in the court of Louis XV. Although the text does not specify its exact role in the construction of the Terrace, this period coincides with local developments, suggesting a context of rural modernization under its leadership.

The protected set includes, in addition to the gate and gate, the bahut wall and the two masonry pillars delimiting the courtyard. These elements, typical of 18th century civil architecture, reflect the taste for monumental fences, symbols of social status. The exact location, 22 rue de l'Ancien-Château, confirms its integration into the historical fabric of the village.

The accuracy of the location is estimated to be satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), according to data from the Merimée database. No information is available on the current accessibility of the site (visits, accommodation) or its contemporary use, although its ranking makes it a remarkable heritage of the Centre-Val de Loire.
