Parcels containing archaeological remains (see E 113p, 115): classification by decree of 25 January 1957

Origin and history

The Old Town of Vienna is an ancient building in the municipality of Vienna, Isère. This monument, classified among archaeological remains, dates from the Roman period, although the available sources do not specify its exact use or its detailed history. It has been protected since 1957 by a classification order covering plots E 113p and 115, attesting to its heritage importance.

The vestiges of the "deon" are part of an urban context marked by Roman influence in Gaul. In ancient times, Vienna (then Vienna) was a prosperous city, administrative and cultural center of the region. Odeons, usually dedicated to musical performances or public meetings, reflected the influence of Gallo-Roman cities. Their presence illustrates the integration of Roman practices in the provinces, as well as the social and cultural organization of local elites.

Today, the site is owned by the municipality of Vienna. Although information on its accessibility or conservation status is limited, its classification in 1957 highlights the desire to preserve this heritage. Available data, from sources such as Monumentum, mention an approximate location (8 Montée Saint-Marcel), but without details of any recent excavations or restorations.
