Origin and history

The former Maison Baer is a civil building located at 3 rue du Bouclier in Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin department. Built during the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it illustrates the architectural heritage of the city under the Old Regime. Its designation as historic monuments in 1929 bears witness to its heritage value, particularly for its facade and roof, protected by ministerial decree.

Strasbourg, in the 18th century, was a dynamic city under French influence, marked by economic and cultural growth. Bourgeois houses, such as the Baer House, reflected the social status of their owners and often served as a place of residence or commercial activity. These buildings were part of the city's urban structure and architectural identity, combining local traditions and classical influences.

The inscription of the Baer House in 1929 is part of a broader desire to preserve the Alsatian heritage, after the historical upheavals of the early twentieth century. Today, it remains a representative example of the easy-to-use Strasbourg habitat of the modern era, accessible via its precise address in the city centre.
