Pont de l'Isère dit Le Vieux-Pont (no CADASTRE box; PUBLIC AREA): Order of 13 November 1980

Origin and history

The Old Bridge, also known as the Isère Bridge or Saint-Pierre Bridge, is an emblematic work of the town of Moutiers, Savoy. Built in 1785, it crossed the Isère at a location where the river is relatively narrow, thus facilitating the crossing since ancient times. This bridge played a key role in the development of the city, heiress of the Gallo-Roman Darentasia, by linking the two banks and promoting exchanges.

Ranked as historical monuments by order of 13 November 1980, the Old Pont is an architectural testimony of the 18th century. Its construction is part of a long local tradition of controlling river crossings, essential for a mountainous region where communication routes were often difficult. Today, it remains a symbol of Savoyard heritage and the history of Moutiers.

The bridge is located Place du Vieux Pont, in the city centre, and belongs to the public domain of the municipality. Although its exact location is documented, available sources do not specify its current state of visit or use. Its classification in 1980 underlines its historical and architectural importance, while guaranteeing its preservation for future generations.
