Origin and history

The opidum de Châteauvieux is a monument located in the commune of Pionnat, New Aquitaine. This type of site, characteristic of the iron age, was generally used as a fortified site for Celtic populations. Oppidas were often political, economic and religious centres, playing a key role in the territorial organization of the Gaulish peoples.
