Oratory Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, in the hamlet of the Ecot : inscription by order of 1 December 1980
Origin and history
The Oratory Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs de L'Écot is a religious monument located in the hamlet of the Ecot, on the commune of Bonneval-sur-Arc, in Savoie. Built in the seventeenth century, it embodies the architecture and local devotion of this time. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 1 December 1980 bears witness to its heritage value and cultural importance to the region.
In the 17th century, oratories played a central role in the spiritual and community life of alpine villages. They served as places of prayer, gathering and symbolic landmarks in often isolated territories. Bonneval-sur-Arc, located in the high mountains, illustrates this tradition where religious buildings marked the landscape and rhythmized the lives of the inhabitants, between pastoral activities and religious practices.
It is now owned by the municipality of Bonneval-sur-Arc. Although the practical information about his visit or access is not detailed, his protected status guarantees his preservation. Its location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" in the databases, allows it to be located precisely in the hamlet of the Ecot, near the GPS coordinates provided.
