Oratory Sainte-Madeleine : inscription by order of 22 July 1935
Origin and history
The Sainte-Madeleine Oratory is a monument located in the commune of Orgon in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Ranked as a Historic Monument, it was registered by decree on 22 July 1935, attesting to its heritage value. Its location in the Saint-Roch district reflects its anchoring in the local landscape, although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (note 5/10).
The oratories, like that of Sainte-Madeleine, often played a central role in the religious and social life of the Provençal communities. In Orgon, as in other villages in the area, these buildings served as places of devotion, gathering or spiritual landmarks for the inhabitants. Their presence attests to the importance of faith and local traditions in the organization of the territory, especially in rural or semi-rural areas such as the Bouches-du-Rhône.
