Origin and history
The old hostel located at 27-29 rue des Fontaines in Bergerac is a historical monument dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. This building, which belonged to a wealthy merchant, consists of two separate houses. One of them, built in the 16th century, is distinguished by its four arches decorated with columns and capitals carved with ivy leaves. Two windows feature trilobic groined bays and four-leaf patterns, characteristic of late Gothic architecture.
The house was partially protected by a registration order under the Historical Monuments on 24 June 1948, specifically covering the cadastral house under the DM 50 reference. Although its official address also includes 3 rue Gaudra, its precise location remains approximate, with an accuracy estimated at 5/10 depending on available sources. The building, still visible today, bears witness to Bergerac's civil architectural heritage and its medieval commercial past.
No information is available on its current access to the public, whether it be visits, room rental or accommodation. The data come mainly from the Merimée database and Monumentum, supplemented by photographic observations under Creative Commons license. The commune of Bergerac, identified by code Insee 24037, belongs to the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
