Origin and history

The House of Pages is a bourgeois construction erected in 1792 in Choisy-le-Roi, in the current Val-de-Marne. It was commissioned by François Gabriel Courrejolles, who acquired the land in the same year. Although wrongly attributed to the architect Ange Jacques Gabriel, the sources confirm that Courrejolles was the architect. The building, of sober and elegant style, reflects the civil architecture of the late eighteenth century.

The facades and roofs of the house were protected by a decree of inscription under the title of Historical Monuments on 6 June 1933. The lucarnes, added later, altered the original harmony of the balustrade, according to the experts' observations. The monument thus illustrates the architectural transformations suffered by historical buildings over the centuries.

Located at the corner of Avenue de Paris and Boulevard des Allées, the Maison des Pages is a testament to the urban planning of Choisy-le-Roi, a then developing city near Paris. Its state of conservation and location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (6/10), make it a representative example of the Franciscan heritage of the revolutionary period.
