Origin and history
The Pension House of Bourgneuf, located in Quimperlé in Finistère, is a monument dating back to the 15th century. This building, now dedicated to the reception of the elderly, retains remarkable architectural elements, including its entrance gate, which bear witness to its medieval history. This portal, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 3 June 1932, constitutes the only protected element of the site, emphasizing its heritage importance in an urban context marked by successive transformations.
The monument is managed by an association, suggesting a social and collective vocation from its origin or reassignment. Although the available sources do not specify its initial use in the 15th century, houses of this type, in Breton villages, often served as housing for wealthy families, artisans or local institutions such as hospices. The location in Quimperlé, a historic city located on the banks of the Laita, reinforces its anchoring in a territory marked by river trade and crafts from the Middle Ages.
The accuracy of the current location is considered "passable" (note of 5/10), and the exact address, 32 Rue du Bourgneuf, allows to situate the monument in the ancient center of Quimperlé. Data from the Merimée database confirm that it belongs to the Finistère department (code Insee 29233) and to the Brittany region. No information is available about its opening to the public, its visit, or possible ancillary functions such as guest rooms or room rentals.
