Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre de Dampierre is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Glaglisse-Dampierre, in the department of Indre (Centre-Val de Loire region). Built between the 12th and 18th centuries, it depicts a Romanesque architecture marked by subsequent additions, such as its choir from the 13th to the 15th century. Its bell tower covered with chestnut shingles, typical of the region, and its 13th century western portal make it a remarkable example of local heritage.

The church depends on the archdiocese of Bourges and the dean of Val de Creuse. It houses in its right side chapel the tombstone of Pierre de Muzard (circa 1595-1631), local lord, testifying to his historic anchoring in the provincial nobility. Classified as a historical monument by decree of May 11, 1932, it embodies both an active place of worship and an architectural vestige of medieval and modern times.

The walls of the nave, dating from the 12th century, contrast with the west façade and its 13th century portal, reflecting the stylistic evolutions of the period. The vault of the choir, added in the 15th century, highlights the successive transformations of the building. Today, a communal property, the church remains a point of interest for its history, architecture and role in the religious life of Boischaut Sud.
