Origin and history
The Cape Camarat lighthouse, located in Ramatuelle in the Var, was built between 1829 and 1832 (according to Wikipedia) or in 1836 (according to Monumentum). This emblematic monument presents itself as a square tower in smooth masonry, centered on a square base at one level, with stone corner chains. A cylindrical shelter supports a large metal lantern. Managed by the Lighthouse and Beacon Service, it is now remotely controlled from Porquerolles station.
With a height of 129.80 meters above sea level, it is France's second lighthouse by the height of its light source. Nearby is the Camarat semaphore, administered by the National Navy, which houses an ASN (Digital Selective Call), a global marine distress and safety system. The lighthouse was electrified in 1946 and automated in 1977.
Ranked as a Historic Monument, the lighthouse has been fully protected since a decree of 19 September 2012, including its housing, its fence wall and its entrance gate. Its exact location is reported in Ramatuelle (code Insee 83101), in the department of Var, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d的Azur region. The sources available (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) confirm its heritage and technical importance.
