Origin and history

The pharmacy of the Park, located at 26 rue du Président-Wilson in Vichy (Allier, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), was founded in 1900. It is one of the few shops still in operation during the fascist period of Vichy under the Second Empire, alongside emblematic establishments such as the Confectionery Aux Marocaines. Although its front was redone in the 1960s, its interior retained most of its original elements, including stucco woodwork and remarkable furniture.

The interior is made up of large glass panels supported by wooden frames with groovy intercolumn, decorated with garland friezes under cornice with modillons. The counters and displays, decorated with windows, drawers and galleries carved with vegetal motifs, illustrate the neat craftsmanship of the time. These elements, as well as woodwork, were listed as historic monuments by order of 4 March 1991, highlighting their heritage value.

The Park pharmacy embodies the architectural and commercial heritage of Vichy, a renowned spa town. Its furnishings and decors, typical of the early 20th century, reflect the elegance and refinement that characterized the establishments frequented by an easy clientele who came to enjoy the thermal treatments. Despite the partial modernization of some elements (ground, ceiling, front), the historic soul of the site remains preserved, offering a journey through time to visitors.

A private property still active, the pharmacy of the Park bears witness to the continuity between Vichy's glorious thermal past and its present. Its inscription among historical monuments guarantees the protection of this unique heritage, while allowing the public to appreciate an exceptional commercial interior, rare survival of a past era.
