Origin and history

La Pierre du Vert-Galant, also known as Pierre du Ver-Valland, is a dolmen located in Tavers, Loiret department in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This megalithic monument dates back to the Neolithic period and is distinguished by its isolation in the local landscape. It is located about 4 kilometers northwest of the center of Tavers, in the hamlet of La Croterie, more precisely near the place called 9 Coins du Veau.

Ranked a historic monument by decree of 14 December 1948, this dolmen is one of the few protected megalithic remains of the Loiret. Its alternative name, Ver-Valland, may reflect an ancient linguistic evolution or local interpretation. The dolmens, typical of Neolithic, generally served as collective burials, although the available sources do not specify the exact use of this specimen.

The location of the Pierre du Vert-Galant is documented with an accuracy deemed satisfactory a priori (level 6/10), according to the data of the Merimée database. The site is referenced under the code Insee 45317, attached to the commune of Tavers and the borough of Orléans. No information is provided on its current accessibility or any associated services (visits, accommodation).
