Origin and history
The pigeon house of the Château de Troërin is part of a historic estate located in Plouvorn, Brittany. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, is part of an architectural and landscaped complex that includes a mansion, terraced gardens, a rectangular basin, and a elaborate hydraulic system. The development works, particularly those carried out in the 18th century, transformed the estate into a functional and aesthetic place, integrating elements such as a pool, a washhouse, and the ruins of a mill.
In 1717, engineer Isaac Robelin drew up a plan to create new terraces for a garden and a vegetable garden, as well as a large water mirror. This ambitious project involved modifying existing streams to feed the house, irrigate the gardens, and run the mill. The estate, with its fully preserved dovecote, thus reflects a hydraulic and landscaped organization typical of the large houses of the period.
The estate of the Château de Troérin was included in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 20 July 2009. This protection covers not only the manor and its facades, but also the whole park, its aisles, and its hydraulic system, including underground canals, basin, pool, and ruins of the mill. This classification underlines the heritage importance of this site, a witness to the architectural and hydraulic know-how of the 16th and 18th centuries.
